You’ll explore Virunga National Park, one of Africa’s largest parks, situated in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo on this 6-day Virunga classic package. Because it is home to the critically endangered mountain gorillas, this park is widely recognized. The Democratic Republic of the Congo offers numerous landscapes and breathtaking scenery, and you will have the chance to trek mountain gorillas twice in their native habitat and hike Nyiragongo volcano where you will be rewarded with breath taking views at the summit.

Day 1: Transfer to DR Congo from the international airport Kigali

A tour guide from Adventure in the Wild Safaris will meet you at the Kigali international airport and drive you to Gisenyi town, one of the biggest towns along the beaches of Lake Kivu. You will have a boat ride on Lake Kivu in the afternoon while observing the Nyiragongo volcano, and then you will be transferred to Virunga National Park. Dinner and overnight.

Day 2: 1st Gorilla tracking in Virunga

You will get up early, eat breakfast, and then be driven by your driver to Bukima patrol where you will register and receive a training on going on a gorilla trek. Expect to meet other hikers in Bukima, the starting point for all gorilla treks in the Virunga National Park, and then go out on your walk after receiving a briefing. Mountain gorillas will be found after a 1- to 3-hour journey, and you will be permitted to spend an hour with them watching them go about their daily lives, including nursing the infants and other tasks. After that, you’ll return to your lodge for lunch before engaging in some bird watching in the late afternoon.

Day 3: Virunga, 2nd day Mountain Gorilla trekking

Your safari guide will take you to the Bukima police station for a gorilla trekking briefing after having breakfast in the morning. After receiving a briefing, you will go out on an adventure to find the critically endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. The hike could take you anywhere from 2 to 5 hours, or even longer depending on where the mountain gorillas are because they prefer high-altitude habitats. Spend an hour observing the gorillas feeding their young, eating, and engaging in other daily routines while taking pictures of them. This will be a thrilling adventure. You will stroll back to the Bukima police station to meet your driver and transfer you back to the lodge.

Day 4: Free day in Virunga National Park

You will wake up at leisure, have your delicious breakfast and spend the whole day relaxing and enjoying the services of your lodge. You can choose to go for some guided nature walks or spending the day reading a book and experiencing the warmness of the park.

Day 5: Hiking Nyiragongo Volcano

You will be escorted to the park headquarters after your early-morning breakfast for registration and a briefing about the Nyiragongo hike. The hike will then begin at the Kibati ranger station, which is located at an elevation of 1870 meters above sea level. As you begin your walk, the lower slopes are covered with a beautiful rain forest that is home to a variety of birds, animals, and primates. You’ll notice that there is less foliage as you climb higher. Depending on the hikers’ speed and physical condition, the walk will last 5 to 6 hours. You will be rewarded at the summit with amazing views of the erupting magma from the crusted lava, where you can also take some pictures. a night spent at the crater.

Day 6: Descend Nyiragongo

You’ll begin your descent from the summit of the volcano to the bottom in the morning after eating breakfast that has been cooked by the porters, and this will take less time than climbing. After that, our driver will pick you up and transfer you to Kigali so that you can do a city tour and visit the genocide memorial site before continuing to Kigali International airport to catch your departure.
